SCENERY

As the sun descends and the landscape ignites
The world heaves a sigh for the death of the day.
This is the scenery we've come to know;
Dusk kissing the hilltops and hugging the trees.
As night arrives with its hungry eyes
And jealousy, rage and the monsters that hide,
The mercury Moon whirls a fearsome dance,
Sneaking and spinning beyond prediction.
And your charts and your plans are worthless here,
The grim silver light parodying true vision.
A blindness, a stumble, and everything falls.
The road is invisible peril at dark.
But to wait for the dawn? We might be caught
By demons or monsters or wolves at best.
Let's keep moving on these shadowed roads
Cautiously, quietly, with baby-steps
